Poor Posture

A person’s posture defines about his or her personality. If a person is standing straight and having good posture, he or she appears to be confident and self-assured. A person can control his postures as it is his second nature. Poor posture can be the consequence of any accident, fall, spending long hours in front computer or driving. It can also develop due to environmental issues or bad habits.

A good posture is the ground for perfect neck and back care. A bad posture can cause spinal problems and even can make the conditions worse. Poor posture usually observed in the lower neck area and lower back.
A bad posture in the neck area is often recognized by a forward head which is also known as vulture neck, forward head carriage or anterior head carriage. And if it is in lower back, it is described as a curve that goes toward belly button too much or too little. As the bones are joined with the muscles, any abnormality from the normal posture forces your associated muscles to work harder to keep you from falling over. Your energy is wasted when your muscles have to hold you while having a poor posture and leaves you with the feeling of tiredness.

Causes of poor posture

The most common reasons of poor posture can be:-

• Injury – After an injury, the muscles guard the weak are to keep it stable. But it causes the weakness in the muscles. The imbalance between muscles that guard an injury and normal working muscles can cause abnormalities in body posture.

• Disease and Nutritional State – Dehydration or malnutrition can straight away affect the bones, muscles and other structures of the musculoskeletal system. The strength and flexibility for good posture is provided by the structures of the musculoskeletal system, so its scarcities and disease can negatively affect posture.

• Habit – A person’s habit can also result in poor posture and a compromised body alignment. Slouching on bed, poor standing posture, prolonged sitting in front of computer can lead to the problems of neck pain, back pain and shoulder pain.

• Muscle Tension and Muscle Weakness – In the case of an injury the extra weak areas cannot be held upright against gravity in the most effective manner. This will cause poor posture and pain.
